James Madison's Montpelier

The Confederate Camp and Freedman's Farm Interpretive Trail passes through a portion of a Civil War Confederate Army winter camp and leads to the Gilmore Farm, a farm settled by a freedman who had been a slave of James Madison.

Design 3 worked with the archaeology staff at Montpelier to develop four interpretive signs along the trail. Through images, text, and a timeline, each sign highlights specific events, artifacts, or people at each of the respective sites.
